Liberty General Insurance offers two different types of car insurance. Their comprehensive car insurance policy provides coverage for damages to your car from both natural and man-made accidents, personal accident coverage for any injuries you sustain as the owner or driver of the car, and coverage for any damages or injuries to third party individuals or property. Liberty's third party insurance plan does not provide coverage for yourself or your car, but does provide protection against third party damages and injuries.
Annual premiums for Liberty's comprehensive policy are slightly above-average compared to the rest of the car insurance market in India, but they provide one of the easiest online purchase processes, so consumers can buy a new plan in minutes. The company offers its policyholders an enticing list of applicable discounts, multiple add-on coverages to choose from, and a large network of cashless repair garages to go along with solid claim settlement metrics.

Liberty General Comprehensive Car Insurance Policy Highlights
Liberty General Insurance's policies aren't the cheapest on the market, but they're best suited for sedan drivers. Annual premiums for a new Honda Amaze start at Rs. 22,403, just 6% higher than the market average in India.
Drivers of SUVs, luxury cars and used cars may have a more difficult time fitting Liberty's comprehensive policy into their budget, as annual premiums in for these car models can be up to 16% more expensive than the national average.
The company's comprehensive policy provides personal accident insurance for the owner or driver of the insured car, and covers against damages from both natural and man-made calamities up to Rs. 15 lakhs, as well as damages to third party property. Their plan does not protect against:
- Driving without a valid driving license
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Speeding, racing, motor trade, using a private car for commercial purposes
- Loss or damage outside India
- Depreciation, contributory negligence, consequential loss
- Mechanical or electrical failure or breakdown, wear and tear
Liberty offers 14 add-on features to enhance the scope of your coverage, which is just about the average amount for an Indian car insurer, but many of them are unique and only offered by a select few companies. They offer ambulance expense coverage, daily hospital cash allowance, and medical expense coverage, which could save you a lot of money in the event of a serious accident where you need medical attention. Only three of the 16 insurers we studied offer all three of these add-ons to their policyholders.
They also provide two beneficial add-ons to protect other occupants of the vehicle, besides yourself. Liberty offers passenger accident coverage, which provides the same protection as personal accident coverage does for you as the owner and driver, as well as legal liability for paid drivers or workers of the car.

Third Party Plan Highlights
Liberty Insurance provides a third party car insurance policy as an alternative to their comprehensive plan, if you're seeking cheaper premiums or a reduced level of coverage. Their third party plan includes coverage for damages to third party vehicles or properties and coverage for injury or death of a third party individual as a result of an accident.
Liberty allows their third party policyholders to opt for personal accident coverage, but does not make it mandatory. They also offer an additional add-on - legal liability for paid drivers and workers - which is the same as personal accident coverage, but covers any paid employee driving the car, as opposed to the owner of the car. Liberty is one of just four insurers we analysed to offer this add-on to their third party plan.
The company uniquely offers discounts on their third party policy, and is one of just two insurers in our study to do so. They allow consumers to apply a claims free discount, which lowers the annual premium cost if you haven't previously filed a claim. Liberty also provides a discount if you are a member of an approved automobile association, or if you provide personal information like occupation and credit score.
The Indian government regulates third party coverage pricing, including the policy offered by Liberty, so all third party plans from all insurers will cost the same annually.

Comparing Digit Against the Market
Liberty General Insurance has only been in business since 2013, and they’ve already satisfied their policyholders to the tune of a 4.6-out-of-5 star rating on PolicyBazaar and a perfect 5-star rating on InsuranceDekho. They have a large network of cashless garages, nearly 500 more than the market average competitor, so you can be sure to find a repair facility in a convenient area in case of an accident.
|Incurred Claims Ratio||70%||90%|
|Claim Settlement Rate||97.0%||94.3%|
|PolicyBazaar Star Ratings||4.6 (7 reviews)||4.2 (22 reviews)|
|InsuranceDekho Star Ratings||5.0 (150 reviews)||4.9 (167 reviews)|
Their 97% claim settlement rate is one of the five-best among the insurers we studied, and while their incurred claims ratio is 5% below the most optimal range for an Indian car insurer, their 70% ICR is still a healthy number, and consumers can rely on fast and smooth settlement processes. An optimal ICR for an Indian car insurer is between 75-90%, which indicates a strong ability to settle claims against annual premium collection.
One of the few drawbacks of Liberty's insurance policies is their market share. Since they've only been in business a short time and have a below-average market share, it's a slight risk to buy an insurance policy from a company who does not have a long or extensive track record of satisfied customers.
Online Car Insurance Platform
Liberty’s online quoting tool is one of the fastest, smoothest and most responsive of any that we studied, and it provides ease of use every step of the way. Consumers can apply add-ons and discounts right from the quoting tool, and can watch as their selections increase or decrease their premium cost. While most other insurers offer the option to email or SMS you a copy of the quote, Liberty provides the more convenient option of sending you a copy via WhatsApp.
Liberty's website is an extremely helpful resource for policyholders, featuring a quick-access menu with tools to locate office branches and repair garages, get in touch with an agent, or even track the status of an outstanding claim. They also provide a deep explanation of the quoting and purchasing journey, so you can ensure you understand the process before beginning it.
While Liberty General Insurance does not guarantee claim settlement in a specific window of time, they do promise hassle-free claims and inspections, as well as claim settlements seven days a week. Policyholders can submit claims on Liberty's website, or by phone between 8.00 AM and 8.00 PM.
Once your claim is submitted, Liberty will organise a survey of your damaged car within 24 hours if you're within city limits, or within 48 hours if you're outside city limits. Your car will then be transferred to a network cashless garage, and you'll be required to submit the completed documents outlined in the claims portal of Liberty's website.
