United India Bike Insurance: Poor Claim Settlement Rates Tough to Overlook
United India Insurance is only affordable for bikes with a low cylinder capacity. They provide unique add-ons to enhance your coverage, but their claim settlement rates are tough to overlook.
Bikes 100cc and below
Consumers seeking unique add-on coverages
Bikes over 100cc
High-risk riders with a long claims history
United India Insurance offers two different types of bike insurance: a comprehensive policy with personal accident coverage, and a comprehensive policy without personal accident coverage. Their plans are expensive for all two wheelers over 100cc, and are not recommended for riders of powerful bikes who are attempting to stick to a budget. However, United India's plans for less powerful bikes under 100cc are some of the more affordable options on the market.
If you're seeking a similarly strong scope of coverage, but with cheaper annual premium rates, you'll want to consider a few alternatives. Edelweiss Insurance, Reliance General Insurance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, and Bharti Axa Insurance provide great comprehensive two wheeler coverage, and have the four cheapest annual premiums of any insurer in our study.
Comprehensive two wheeler insurance policy is available with or without personal accident coverage.
Offers unique add-ons that are not available from many competitors.

United India Comprehensive Two Wheeler Insurance Plan Benefits
United India's cheapest comprehensive policies are for bikes under 100cc. Annual premiums for a TVS Super XL STD start 18% cheaper than the market average in India.
If you own a bike over 100c, you'll want to consider other two wheeler insurers, since United India's annual premiums start to get expensive for more powerful bikes. Comprehensive policies for a Bajaj Pulsar 220F start 14% above the national average, and can be up to 21% more expensive than average for a Royal Enfield Classic 350.
United India provides consumers with two comprehensive policy options. Their base package does not include personal accident coverage for the owner or rider of the bike, so if you opt for this plan, only your motorcycle, scooter or moped is covered in an accident. The rider or owner's medical costs are not covered. United India's comprehensive policy gives you personal accident coverage for a higher annual cost, which most policyholders opt for in an effort to protect themselves in case of injury or accident.
Most of the insurers in our study provide 100% personal accident coverage in the event of injuries or death caused by an accident. United India only covers you up to the total insured amount, and is one of just three companies we analysed that offer less than 100% protection. This could be a huge drawback for not just high-risk riders, but all riders who may not be able to afford medical bills and repairs after an accident.
Aside from personal accident coverage, United India's scope of coverage is standard, compared to the other two wheeler insurance companies on the market. They offer 100% coverage for third party losses and damages, accidental damages, theft, fire damage, man-made damage and damage caused by natural calamities.
The company also offers the most unique list of add-on features of any insurer we studied. They are one of just two insurers in our study to offer vehicle relocation and coverage for electrical fittings, and the only bike insurer to offer coverage for fuel kits, fibreglass fuel tanks, and any damages incurred outside of India.

Electrical Fittings Cover
Fibreglass Fuel Tank Coverage
Zero Depreciation Cover

Personal Belongings Coverage

United India is the second-largest bike insurer in our study, so policyholders can be confident that so many other riders trust their coverage. They also have a perfect 5-star rating on InsuranceDekho and PolicyBazaar, but there are too many worrisome statistics to overlook.
Incurred Claims Ratio
Claim Settlement Rate
PolicyBazaar Star Ratings
5.0 (8 reviews)
4.6 (37 reviews)
InsuranceDekho Star Ratings
5.0 (53 reviews)
4.9 (111 reviews)
The company owns the second-worst incurred claims ratio (ICR) and the lowest claim settlement ratio of any insurer in our study. United India's 121% ICR is 31% above the optimal range for an Indian two wheeler insurer, which sounds like it exceeds expectations, but actually indicates that a large portion of annual premiums are used to cover risk transfer. And, their 85.4% claim settlement ratio is nearly 10% below average, so policyholders should expect a long, obstacle-filled settlement process.
United India also has the smallest network of cashless garages of the insurers we analysed. With over 2,000 fewer repair facilities, finding a convenient garage to fix damages to your motorcycle, scooter, or moped after an accident could prove to be challenging.
Online Purchasing Platform
United India's online quoting and purchasing tool is one of the worstin our study. Both the website and the quoting tool are outdated, slow, and difficult to navigate.
They do not offer the option to email, SMS or WhatsApp you a copy of your quote, nor do you have the option to retrieve an old quote. The page-load times are very slow, and often, the buttons do not respond to take you to the next step in the purchase process. The quoting widget is also very confusing, as four wheeler and two wheeler insurance share the same tool, and once you are ready to complete your purchase, you are navigated away from the United India website.
United India's website does provide a few helpful resources for consumers, however. While they do not have a garage locator tool, they do have an office branch locator, as well as a live chat option, in case you need assistance navigating the quoting or purchasing process.
United India's comprehensive two wheeler insurance plan offers an average amount of add-ons to enhance their standard scope of coverage, many of which consumers won't find with other companies. However, there are key exclusions that consumers should be aware of before committing to a year-long policy.
Many bike insurers in India allow their policyholders to cover such items through add-ons, and while United India does offer many unique options, the items on this list are unavailable for purchase.
Claims Process Information
United India Insurance does not have an app to submit instant claims from. Instead, policyholders must log in to their website or call their dedicated agent to submit a claim. They do not make any guarantees on how long it takes to process or settle claims, but they do have a portal with the required documents you'll need to successfully submit a claim.
